MOUNTAIN HOUSE: DUSTY, BUT LIVABLE -Shopping areas and golf courses are in the works

Mountain House- Despite the dust, bulldozers, hammers and workers that keep this new town development moving all day long, some homeowners have managed to get their belongings through the gates and into their new homes. Mountain House now has open five communities within its first village, Wuckland. And Lennar Homes, the company handling home sales, has had no problem selling homes in those subdivisions despite the construction.

"Every (home) release, we sell out that day," said Lorie Sweeney of Lennar homes. Between the five neighborhoods, 90 homes have been sold so far. Homes have so far ranged in price from the high $300,000s to the low $500,000s. Owners of those homes have already begun to move in.

The Serenade neighborhood opened in March and is now home to 20 families. It was followed by Liberty in April, which has 11 families settled in; Colebrook, which has 12 families moved in; HeatherGlen, which has two, and Glenmoore, which is waiting for its first family in October.

All of the people who are currently living there are doing so among the dust and debris of construction. But that didn’t stop Toni Haulotte from moving in a week ago. Her house is tucked away between the mass new home construction in the Colebrook community. "I really don’t mind it," Haulotte said as she was sweeping the dust off of her new porch,

Her family moved from Tracy for the shorter commute and because "I believe in the opportunities here," Haulotte said. Her house in Tracy appreciated by a third while she was living there, and she believes she is in for an even greater return in Mountain House. She’s met about six families already. "My son is best friends with the boy across the street," Haulotte said.

Right now she drives her son to Lammersville Elementary School, which is five minutes away. Soon, Wuckland Village will have its own school, which is set to open around December, and will be operated by the Lammersville School District.

Construction already has begun on a community center for Wuckland Village as well. When all of the neighborhoods in Wuckland Village are complete it will have 975 homes, and an estimated 3,000 people. Shopping areas and golf courses are in works for the future.

Mountain House, when built out in 15 to 20 years, will stretch from Byron Road to Interstate 205, and be bordered by Mountain House Parkway and the San Joaquin/Alameda County line. The Liberty neighborhood will be releasing 10 more homes for sale on Sept. 20. The current building is taking place off I-205 on Mountain House Parkway.
